In fact, there is no absolute "more suitable". Both are low-load exercises that take into account physical and mental regulation. Which one you choose depends entirely on your current physical condition, exercise requirements and even your life rhythm. It is no problem to practice together.
I was talking about this with my sister who often practices yoga with me a while ago. Her cousin works as an Internet planner and stays up late all the time to catch up on plans. Last year, she was diagnosed with premature beats and the doctor did not allow strenuous exercise. She initially signed up for a basic class in a yoga studio. After practicing for half a month, she still felt like she was following her every time. Adjusting my breathing made me even more nervous. I was always worried that my postures were not up to standard and would drag down the whole class. Later, I happened to follow my colleagues to practice simplified 24-posture Tai Chi for more than a month.
Don’t tell me, many people have really deep stereotypes about these two sports. They think that yoga is only for young girls and Tai Chi is a hobby for retired people. In fact, this is not the case. If you have old knee injuries, or are prone to anxiety or nervousness, Tai Chi's slow movement along with your breathing is much friendlier than many yoga postures that require shoulder opening, hip opening, and stretching to the limit. When I injured my meniscus last year, my yoga personal trainer refused to allow me to do movements such as Warrior Pose and Downward Dog Pose that put pressure on my knees. I followed my dad to learn Tai Chi cloud hands and stances for more than half a month. The strength of the muscles around my knees has stabilized a lot, and I no longer have pain when I go back to practice yoga. Some sisters complained to me before, saying they were afraid of building muscular legs by doing Tai Chi stances. In fact, they really worried too much. As long as the movements are standard, stances train the control of the core and leg muscles, which can make the legs straighter. This is essentially the same logic as the mountain pose of yoga. If the force is used wrongly, no matter what you practice, problems will easily occur.
Of course, if you want to adjust your posture at the same time, or like an atmospheric exercise scene, then yoga is actually more adaptable. Many of my friends who have just given birth have taken special yoga classes for postpartum recovery. Some of them also have shoulder and neck pain while sitting in the office. They can practice shoulder and neck yoga in just 15 minutes during their lunch break. There is no need to find a special venue or gather teammates, and it is convenient to practice and stop at any time.
Actually, I really don’t have to worry about which one to choose. I go to a yin yoga class on the weekends to build up the stiffness I’ve had for a week. When I get up in the morning on weekdays, I take 10 minutes to stand and do two sets of cloud hands. My overall condition is much better than when I was doing difficult yoga poses. If you really have to choose, you can try each two or three times. After practicing, you will feel relaxed and comfortable, and there will be no soreness that cannot be relieved for two or three days. Then no matter which one you choose, it is right. If you like both, practicing together can complement each other. There is no reason to choose one or the other.
