In fact, there is no one-size-fits-all standard answer. For the vast majority of women with normal physiques, if they choose the right products and pay attention to the way of consumption, it is absolutely fine to eat them during menstruation. However, if they have symptoms of menstrual discomfort, or choose inappropriate products or use the wrong way of eating, it may worsen the discomfort.

There are two particularly contrasting examples around me. My roommate in the same house has the habit of making superfood powder every day. She often drinks kale powder and acai berry powder. She never stops menstruating. She used to suffer from constipation every time she came. After drinking kale powder with high dietary fiber, her bowel movements became much smoother and her menstrual cramps did not worsen. She also always said that when she mixed the powder into hot soy milk, it was warmer and more comfortable than usual. But another friend who loves to lose weight has been in trouble before. She heard that chia seed powder is very filling and can control sugar. She also eats it with iced yogurt during menstruation. She has a cold constitution. Every time she comes to the aunt, she breaks out in cold sweats. Not only did her menstrual cramps double, but she also had diarrhea for two days. Only later did she realize that chia seeds themselves have the effect of smoothing the intestines. She also added ice to eat them, but she was hit by the fragile gastrointestinal tract during menstruation.

There are actually two different voices in the nutritional circle on this issue. One view is that superfood powder is essentially a powder made from dehydrated, dried and ground natural ingredients. As long as no additional illegal ingredients are added, it is no different from eating raw ingredients directly. Raw ingredients can be eaten during menstruation, and of course they can be eaten when ground into powder. There is no need to stop specifically during menstruation. Another view is more in favor of individualized advice. They feel that the gastrointestinal tolerance during menstruation is inherently lower than usual. Foods such as high-fiber chia seeds, psyllium husk powder, and cold matcha powder and spirulina powder are fine to eat on a regular basis. However, if eaten in large quantities during menstruation, it may indeed irritate the gastrointestinal tract or aggravate dysmenorrhea symptoms for people with uterine cold problems. It is recommended to reduce the dosage or temporarily switch to milder products.

You really don’t need to worry too much about this issue. If you usually eat a certain superfood powder without any discomfort, as long as you don’t use iced drinks during menstruation, it’s totally fine if the amount remains the same as usual.; If you are prone to diarrhea and severe dysmenorrhea during menstruation, you can temporarily stop the cold, high-fiber and intestinal-friendly ones, and replace them with mild and stable ones such as red date powder, iron stick yam powder, and pumpkin powder. By the way, I would like to remind you, don’t buy the kind of compound superfood powder that adds a lot of white sugar, non-dairy creamer, or even claims to be able to "lose weight during menstruation" and "regulate endocrine". It is not recommended to eat more of that kind regardless of whether you are menstruating. The additional ingredients may affect hormone levels. This should not be blamed on pure superfood powder. During my menstrual period, I would replace the matcha powder I usually drink with pure beetroot powder and add it to hot milk. The light sweetness is warming and can replenish the lost iron. I haven't had any problems after drinking it for more than half a year.
