It is usually a normal physiological phenomenon for menstruation to be delayed by 7 days. Fluctuations in the menstrual cycle may occur within the range of 21-35 days, and occasional delays may be related to factors such as mood swings and changes in work and rest.
The menstrual cycle is precisely regulated by the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis, and the fluctuations in the cycle of healthy women within 7 days are mostly related to physiological factors. Short-term stress, travel jet lag or strenuous exercise may cause a prolonged cycle by affecting hormone secretion. Such situations do not require special treatment and can usually recover on their own after adjusting your lifestyle. Some women experience natural cycle adjustments when the seasons change, manifesting as delayed menstruation but no other discomfort.
If cycle disorders occur for more than 3 consecutive months, or are accompanied by symptoms such as abnormal bleeding and abdominal pain, pathological factors such as polycystic ovary syndrome and thyroid dysfunction need to be considered. Long-term use of emergency contraceptive pills and antidepressants may also interfere with cycle regularity. In addition to delayed menstruation, patients with endometriosis are often accompanied by progressive dysmenorrhea and sexual intercourse pain.
It is recommended to record at least 3 menstrual cycles and observe whether they are accompanied by prodromal symptoms such as breast tenderness and headache. Maintain a regular sleep of 7-8 hours a day, and supplement with appropriate amounts of whole grains and dark green vegetables rich in vitamin B. Avoid excessive dieting or sudden increases in exercise intensity. Weight fluctuations of more than 10% may affect hormone levels. If it is delayed for more than 10 days or non-menstrual bleeding occurs, gynecological ultrasound and six sex hormone tests should be performed promptly. You can drink ginger and red date tea before and after menstruation to help warm the uterus, but it is not advisable to take progesterone and other hormone drugs by yourself to regulate the cycle.
